1966年,由Neil Young, Stephen Stills,以及 Richie Furay, Dewey Martin ,Bruce Palmer 成立的 Buffalo Springfield 在摇滚史上佔据著摇滚树不可动摇的根茎部地位.虽然几位太有才华的神人很难维持稳定的合作关稀.乐团开枝散叶的结果却造就了摇滚史上好几个赫赫有名的重要乐团.

崛起於所谓摇滚史上”第一波英伦入侵风潮”尾端的Buffalo Springfield 儘管只在摇滚乐坛活跃了两年(1966~1968，2010年的復出并没有算在内)， Buffalo Springfield 的音乐始终是摇滚乐迷寻根膜拜的经典.” For What It’s Worth”是 Buffalo Springfield 最著名的一首单曲,也由Ultimate Classic Rock 网站所评选”百大经典摇滚歌曲”第75名.

“For What It’s Worth”这首1967年录製的民谣摇滚风歌曲,认真说,这首写於越战开打后的第十二年，比起同时代的许多名曲,不能说是首音乐性特别让人惊艷的歌曲,却被公认為是最不朽的反战国歌之一。然而，这首由主唱Steven Stills所写描述洛杉磯警方对於日落大道附近的俱乐部观眾的执法过当的反詰故事。原因是起於日落大道该区的区民和业主為遏止青少年所造成的交通问题，强烈支持於晚上十时实施宵禁。而后此举被视為对摇滚乐迷人权的侵犯。

1966年11月12日，上千名的年轻示威者，爆发了强烈的抗议行动。同為抗议者的知名影星 Jack Nicholson以及Peter Fonda更当场被警方带走。此行动被称為”日落大道暴动”，是為迷幻音乐和反文化年代的重要事件，也更成為了Buffalo Springfield 创作” For What It’s Worth”的灵感。乃至今日，这首源於”日落大道暴动”，其后被歌迷误植且将错就错成為反战经典的歌曲，还是象徵著青年们争取自由时，奋不顾身，寧死不屈的愤怒和执著。

” For What It’s Worth”的激进，被也流著拒绝妥协，带有反骨精神的饶舌团体Public Enemy在歌曲”He Got Home”中取样。曾在告示牌排行榜曾取得第七名优秀成绩的” For What It’s Worth”，至今仍是反映出时代精神的鉅作之一。
