在英国组成的三人组乐团 America ,刚出道时,很多人弄不清楚他们来歷,误以為是支取名字叫”美国人”,实际是英国人的乐队.但随著驻英美军的父母在伦敦定居读书的他们三人,可都确实是美国籍.至於取名”美国人”的原因,据说就是為了怕外人弄不清楚.误以為他们是模仿美国人风格的英国人.所以…乾脆取名”America”.



Ultimate Classic Rock选為百大经典摇滚歌曲第78名的”A Horse with No Name”，同时也是该团最畅销的一首单曲，创作者為乐团主唱兼吉他手Dewey Bunnell。

原名為”Desert Song”的这首歌一开始并没有收录在他们於1972发行的首张同名专辑裡。由於英国听眾对於此张专辑的反应平平，唱片公司要求乐团必须再灌录四首歌，并且将此曲重新命名為”A Horse With No Name” 结果是意外地让 America 同名专辑在美国发行时大卖，达到白金销量的成绩。

”A Horse with No Name” 歌曲发行后，因為内容疑似影射使用海洛因后的精神状态(海洛因在黑话中称為马)，在一些美国电台遭到禁播的命运，但却不影响其辉煌纪录：美国告示牌排行榜百大单曲攀升到了第一名 。在英国排行也得到第三名，关於这首歌”A Horse with No Name” 歌词中出现的一段话“There were plants, and birds, and rocks, and things”许多人认為是在描述使用大麻之后的飘飘然幻境，对此，乐团当然是予以否认的。

”A Horse With No Name”也常被人形容,像极了Neil Young的歌曲，但却有著更加细緻的和声部分。Dewey Bunnell也从不讳言Neil Young对他唱歌方式的影响。讽刺的是，这首歌居然是打败了Neil Young 的金曲 “Heart Of Gold”之后，才顺利晋身為排行榜冠军。这也是乐团始料未及的事。此曲对后世影响深远，好比说在卡通”辛普森家庭”中出现，也被收录於2013上映的电影”American Hustle”原声带之中。
